Mistake one: using fluid that is not the specified Toyota CVT fluid. A CVT works through friction between belt and pulleys, so the wrong fluid means slip, heat and failure within months.
Mistake two: delaying the fluid change. In Egyptian conditions we recommend roughly every 40,000 km — not waiting until the transmission starts shuddering.
Mistake three: shifting between D and R while the car is still rolling. Wait for a complete stop before any shift; it protects expensive internal components.
Mistake four: heavy towing or overloading. A CVT is not designed for sustained high loads, and heat is its number-one enemy.
Mistake five: ignoring the first symptom. A light shudder, delayed response or a whining noise are all early warnings. Catching them early can save you the cost of a full rebuild.
